Ken Hensley - keyboards, guitar & vocals 1970 to 1980

Hensley was primarily keyboard player but he also wrote most of the songs, played guitar and even sang lead vocals on some songs. He was in the band for the first ten years and was the musical leader. Hensley left the band in the Summer of 1976 for solo career.

Hensley started his musical career in the early 60's playing in several band. he first recording band was The Gods (with other future Heep members Lee Kerslake & Paul Newton) and after that he joined Cliff Bennett Band which evolved to Toe Fat. He left the band to join Uriah Heep in December 1969.

Having left Heep he released one solo album and toured with his own band before joining Blackfoot for two albums. He quit playing music professionally in mid-80's after hearing about the death of David Byron. Hensley relaunched his solo career in late 90's and continued to record and tour on a regular basis. Since then he has played together with current Uriah Heep twice: First was in 2001 when he joined the band for one reunion concert at The Magician's Birthday Party in London, UK together with John Lawton. In 2015 he and Lee Kerslake guested with Uriah Heep at one concert in Moscow, Russia. There were several collaborations also with other ex-members Lee Kerslake, Paul Newton & John Lawton.

Ken Hensley died 4th November 2020 because of septic shock.
